DESTINIES - THE VOICE OF SCIENCE FICTION
airs on Fridays at 11:30 PM on WUSB, 90.1 FM, the radio station of the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Hundreds of writers, artists, editors, actors, producers, directors, and musicians have appeared on the program since its debut in April, 1983. December 23, 2022 The Destinies Film Review Team (Howard Margolin and Audrey Dettmering) assembles live to discuss "Avatar: The Way of Water." December 16, 2022 Return to Timeflight: 2021, last year's Long Island Doctor Who convention, for part 2 of a talk by author John Peel. In his 11th Destinies appearance, John takes questions from the audience about his writing. Learn if he prefers to write to music or in silence. Find out what his fastest time was to finish a novel-length manuscript. And hear why he wanted to write a "Fireball XL-5 vs. Aliens" crossover story. Saluting the release of "Avatar: The Way of Water," the Destinies Soundtrack Spotlight shines on James Horner's score for the original "Avatar." Plus, Christina M. December 9, 2022 Destinies sets the TARDIS to the afternoon of November 21, 2021, where, at the Long Island Doctor Who convention, author John Peel discusses his work on the Doctor Who spin-off projects featuring UNIT and The Brigadier, in part one of a two-part presentation. In his long-awaited 10th appearance, John talks about how he came to write novels and later audio books about Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart and the members of the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce. You'll also learn about the life of a freelance writer and the demands of publishers. In addition, John recalls his encounters with various Doctor Who actors, including John Levene, Nicholas Courtney, and Anthony Ainley, at conventions over the years.



December 2, 2022 The Destinies Audiobook Sampler continues its salute to the series finale of "The Walking Dead," with part 2 of Robert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga's novel The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governer, read by Fred Berman. After his brother, Philip, pulls him out of the closet where he was hiding during a battle with zombies, Brian Blake joins in the clean-up of corpses, and we learn more about the Blake family, as well as their companions, Bobby and Nick. In memory of actor Kevin Conroy, who died on November 10th at the age of 66, the Destinies Radio Theater presents an encore adaptation of "Batman: The Animated Series-Almost Got 'im," starring Kevin Conroy as Batman. Four of the Batman's greatest enemies meet to compare notes and tell tales of how they "Almost Got 'im." November 25, 2022 Saluting the series finale of AMC's The Walking Dead with part one of Robert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga's novel The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor, read by Fred Berman, on the Destinies Audiobook Sampler. This is the story of Philip Blake, his daughter Penny, and his brother Brian as they attempt to make it to Atlanta as the zombie apocalypse rages around them. Staying in horror mode, Christina M. November 11, 2022 Destinies joins in WUSB's Fall Radiothon with an exclusive preview of next weekend's Meglos 2022: The Long Island Doctor Who Convention. Showrunner Ken Deep returns to discuss the guests and events scheduled for the convention, which will be held on November 18th, 19th, and 20th at the Holiday Inn Long Island-Islip Airport East in Holtsville, NY. October 28, 2022 Destinies celebrates its longest-running tradition with its 40th annual Halloween Special, featuring music, poetry, and radio drama. Marking the 50th anniversary of the publication of Marvel Comics' "The Monster of Frankenstein," the Destinies Radio Theater presents an adaptation of the first issue, written by Gary Friedrich, based on the story by Mary Shelley, and narrated by "Speed Racer's" Peter Fernandez. Christina M. Rau reads her poem "As Reported From the Bunny Suit." Linda Eder sings "Good 'N' Evil" from the Original Broadway Cast Recording of "Jekyll and Hyde." And, "Grim, Grinning Ghosts" from Walt Disney's "Haunted Mansion" appear to celebrate the holiday. Also includes the debut of Lance Henriksen's promo/ID.



October 21, 2022 The Destinies Film Review Society (Howard Margolin, Audrey Dettmering, Dave Campfield, and Justin Paul) gathers live in the studio to discuss "Black Adam." Will Dwayne Johnson's version of the dark side of SHAZAM will be the destroyer of the DC Extended Universe, or it's savior? Is Black Adam an anti-hero, or just a villain? October 14, 2022 Live, in-studio interview with author J.H. Nadler, who returns for his second appearance to discuss and dramatize a scene from his novel "The Books of Alexandrea Book 2: The Between." How has Alexandrea Hawthorne adapted to the fact that she can now wield magic? Why does her cousin, Rosemary, seem to have a natural aptitude for the mystic arts? What is The Between? What will happen to the members of The Book Club when they join Alex's quest to find The Library of magic? And learn about the plans for the conclusion of the trilogy, due out next year.

  

October 7, 2022 Honoring the memory of Oscar and BAFTA award-winning composer and performer Vangelis (March 19, 1943-May 17, 2022) with songs from "The Music of Cosmos," "Blade Runner," "Mythodea: Music for the NASA Mission: 2001 Mars Odyssey," "Juno to Jupiter," and his collaboration with Jon Anderson, "The Friends of Mr. Cairo."



September 30, 2022 In memory of author Peter Straub (March 2, 1943-September 2, 2022), the Destinies Audiobook Sampler presents Ron McLarty's reading of part 2 of Straub's Bram Stoker Award-winning novel "Lost Boy, Lost Girl." "Graphic Detail" #235: Honoring the memory of artist Tom Palmer (July 13, 1941-August 18, 2022) with a digitally re-mastered encore of an interview with Palmer by Howard Margolin and Glenn Greenberg, recorded at I-Con XIII.

September 16, 2022 Author J.R.H. Lawless makes his second live appearance to discuss his latest novel The Rude Eye of Rebellion: Book 2 of The General Buzz. After two seasons of hosting the world's most popular reality competition show, Liam Argyle has had enough. August 19, 2022 Continuing the tribute to the late Nichelle Nichols with songs from her albums "Hauntingly" and "Out of This World." Actor David Warner, who died on July 24th at the age of 80, is remembered with part one of his reading of Justin Richards' novel "Doctor Who: Plague of the Cybermen," on the Destinies Audiobook Sampler. Patrick Thomas' "Dear Cthulhu" answers a letter from a man who is having a problem with his young son. Christina M. Rau reads her poem "The Bots Replace the Robots and the Robots are Sad."

  

August 12, 2022 The Voice of Science Fiction honors the memory of the late actress and singer Nichelle Nichols, who died on July 30th at the age of 89. In a full-length interview conducted by GNP Crescendo Records' Neil Norman and Mark Banning, Nichelle discusses the women who inspired her singing career, the story of how she was cast as Uhura in Star Trek, her 1967 meeting with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in which he convinced her to not leave the series, how she inspired young Whoopi Goldberg to become an actress, her work as a recruiter of women and minorities for NASA's space shuttle program, and her musical tributes to Gene Roddenberry and Star Trek on her 1991 album "Out of This World."



August 5, 2022 The Destinies Film Review League (Howard Margolin, Dave Campfield, Timothy Gillespie) assembles live to discuss "DC League of Super-Pets." Is the movie just for kids, and if not, what will appeal to adults? Does the chemistry between Duane Johnson and Kevin Hart extend to their animated counterparts, Krypto and Ace? How does a hairless guinea pig, voiced by Kate McKinnon, become a threat to the Justice League? July 29, 2022 The Destinies Musical Theater returns to present the world premiere of songs from the cast recording of The Ten Commandments-The Musical. In a telephone interview, the producer and star of the show, David Serero, talks about his journey from viewing the original French production in 2000 to adapting it into English, making the style more contemporary for American audiences, adding dialogue, and bringing it to New York, where it made its off-Broadway debut in May. You'll learn which versions of the story served as the greatest inspirations to this new telling. You'll discover which thematic elements David chose to emphasize. And, you'll find out about the future of this new musical and hear the debut of four songs from the soon-to-be-released cast recording.

June 10, 2022 "Graphic Detail" # 233: Part one of a two-part memorial for artist, writer, publisher, and creators' rights activist Neal Adams. In an encore presentation of an interview recorded at the 2012 New York Comic-Con, you'll learn why Adams felt he had no contemporaries in the comic book industry, what he thought of some of his most iconic cover images, and how he chose to recolor modern reprints of his classic works. May 6, 2022 Destinies Radio Theater Double Feature: Saluting the opening of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” with "The Origin of Dr. Strange," adapted from the original story by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko of how the arrogant surgeon Stephen Strange became the Master of the Mystic Arts. Then, in memory of legendary comics artist, writer, and publisher Neal Adams, who died on April 28, 2022, Adams performs a dramatized version of "Pway for Me" from the 2017 Batman/Elmer Fudd special.



April 29, 2022 Destinies celebrates its 39th anniversary with a one-hour special including encore readings by Patrick Thomas, Rick Lewis, and J.R.H. Lawless; new music by Marco Beltrami ("A Quiet Place Part II) and Austin Wintory ("Traveler-A Journey Symphony"), and a song from “The Return of Captain Invincible” by Alan Arkin and Christopher Lee. introduced by Perseverance Records' Producer Robin Esterhammer. Patrick Thomas' "Dear Cthulhu" answers a letter from a woman who has been married 17 times, and Christina M. Rau reads her “Twin Peaks” poem, "TV Tragedy." April 22, 2022 The Destinies Soundtrack Spotlight shines on award-winning composer Austin Wintory’s “Traveler—A Journey Symphony.” In a live telephone interview, Austin discusses and introduces selections from the album, talks about its origin, and explains how he re-imagined the score for the anniversary of the revolutionary 2012 video game “Journey.” Learn how Austin’s career began, what has changed in the past 18 years, and what it was like to conduct the London Symphony Orchestra.



April 15, 2022 Destinies continues its series of Spring Radiothon specials by taking you back to I-Con 30 for an extra-length concert by ShoEboX of Worm Quartet. The one-man novelty band performs his unique brand of fast, synth-driven pseudo-metal punk/pop at the Stony Brook Student Activities Center auditorium. In a whirlwind set, this long-time member of the Funny Music Project, presents songs about coffee, Pac-Man, Atari 2600, religion, a dead frog, apologizing, the metric system, R2-D2, William Shatner, "The Laundromat of Sin," rabbits, "A Great Idea for a Song," and more.



April 8, 2022 The Destinies Film Review Team (Howard Margolin, Audrey Dettmering, Timothy Gillespie) assembles live to discuss “Morbius,” the latest addition to the Sony Spider-Verse and consider whether this version of the Living Vampire adds fresh blood to the mythos, or just sucks. S. Marshall in the January 28, 1944, episode of "The Lone Ranger." In memory of Meat Loaf, you'll hear his songs from “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and the Intergalactic Touring Band. January 21, 2022 Continuing the celebration of the 50th anniversary of "The Night Stalker," the Destinies Audiobook Sampler presents Johnny Heller reading the introduction and Chapter 1 of “The Kolchak Papers,” the 1971 novel by Jeff Rice that was adapted by Richard Matheson into the screenplay for “The Night Stalker.” Patrick Thomas' "Dear Cthulhu" returns to answer a letter from a woman whose roommate is the leader of a vampire cult. The Destinies Soundtrack Spotlight shines on John Carpenter's score for his 1998 film, “Vampires.

  

January 14, 2022 The Destinies Audiobook Sampler celebrates the 50th anniversary of “The Night Stalker,” the TV movie that introduced reporter Carl Kolchak and his fight against supernatural evil. Johnny Heller reads Kolchak historian Mark Dawidziak's reflections on the character's history and influence from “The Kolchak Collection,” then begins the narrative from author Jeff Rice's original novel “The Kolchak Papers.” Christina M.
