DESTINIES - THE VOICE OF SCIENCE FICTION
airs on Fridays at 11:30 PM on WUSB, 90.1 FM, the radio station of the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Hundreds of writers, artists, editors, actors, producers, directors, and musicians have appeared on the program since its debut in April, 1983. Regular features include: the Destinies Audiobook Sampler, Soundtrack Spotlight, Graphic Detail, the Destinies Radio Theater, Christopher DeFilippis' "DeFlip Side," Patrick Thomas' "Dear Cthuhlu," and convention updates and highlights, as well as host Dr. Howard Margolin's flawless interviews.

December 28, 2018 "Graphic Detail" # 220: Howard Margolin joins with Tony Tellado of "Sci-Fi Talk" to speak with comic book writer and artist Jimmy Palmiotti at I-Con 26. Topics include the SyFy series "Painkiller Jane," and the comic it was based on, the rise of creator-owned comics being adapted for film and television, and Jimmy's DC series "The Monolith."



December 21, 2018 In a live broadcast, Howard Margolin reviews "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," then joins with Audrey Dettmering to review "Aquaman."

    

December 14, 2018 The Voice of Science Fiction presents a super-hero spectacular. Saluting the release of "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" with the 1977 Spidey Super Story "The Purple Pirates and Evil McWeevil," narrated by Morgan Freeman, and music from the 1967 "Spider-Man" cartoon. Celebrating the season and remembering Stan Lee with his reading of "Happy Holidays From The Avengers." Preparing for the opening of "Aquaman" with the 1967 Official Adventure "How Aquaman Got His Powers," starring "Speed Racer's" Peter Fernandez as Arthur Curry.

December 7th, 2018 Celebrating the 40th anniversary of "Superman-The Movie" as Glenn Greenberg makes his record-tying 28th appearance to discuss his article "Richard Donner: The Man Who Made Superman Fly," which will be published in the 3rd issue of "Retro Fan" magazine. November 30, 2018 The Voice of Science Fiction joins in WUSB's Hip-Hop Marathon for the ninth time with an hour-long concert by nerdcore rapper Devo Spice. You'll hear songs about junk food, half-assed rappers, earworms, cupcakes, Doctor Who, IHOP, South Park, Google, the 1980s,and more, in this performance recorded at I-Con 32. November 23, 2018 Memorial for Harlan Ellison, who died on June 28th, at the age of 84, with a digitally-edited encore of Howard Margolin's interview by and with him at I-Con 18, in the 219th edition of "Graphic Detail." Harlan reads the afterword for the audiobook version of his novella "Run For the Stars." Plus, a greeting recorded at Harlan's final I-Con appearance in 2008. A Fall Radiothon Special.

November 9, 2018 Live preview of this year's L.I. Geek convention, with showrunner Ken Deep. An up-to-the minute look at the guests and events scheduled for Long Island's Up Close and Personal Sci-Fi/Fantasy convention, which will be held from November 17-18 in Hauppauge. A Fall Radiothon special.



November 2, 2018 Patrick Thomas' "Dear Cthulhu" answers a letter from a Texas man who thinks he has leprosy. Saluting the digital and home video release of "Incredibles 2" with a Destinies Radio Theater adaptation, featuring original dialogue, music, and effects from the film's soundtrack.



October 26, 2018 Destinies' 36th annual Halloween Special. Joining in WUSB's Fall Radiothon with a Destinies Radio Theater Double Feature. Experience firsthand the sensation of becoming a werewolf in "Transformation," narrated by Jim McDonnell. Then, the late Harry Anderson stars as a treacherous magician who will do anything to obtain a baffling magic trick from a retired European illusionist. Find out what happens in the Act One Audio Thriller "Baumann and the Box."

    

October 19, 2018 Saluting the 30th anniversary of "Mission: Impossible 1988" with Neil Norman's interview with actor Peter Graves, and music by Lalo Schifrin and John E. Davis from "The Best of Mission: Impossible-Then and Now." Plus, Patrick Thomas' "Dear Cthulhu" answers a letter from a woman whose sister thinks she is Sherlock Holmes.



October 12, 2018 Host Dr. Howard Margolin celebrates his birthday on the air by speaking with author Gary Morgentstein, who returns for his second live appearance to discuss and read an excerpt from his novel "A Mound Over Hell: Book 1 of the Dark Depths Series."

    

October 5, 2018 The Destinies Soundtrack Spotlight shines on Garry Schyman's score for the video game "Torn" , in memory of music publicist Beth Krakower. Christopher DeFilippis reflects on the further adventures of Jean-Luc Picard in volume 2, #191 of "DeFlip Side." Preparing for the release of "First Man" with "Man on the Moon," narrated by Walter Cronkite.

    

September 28, 2018 Continuing the memorial for the late Stephen Hawking with chapter two of "The Grand Design," co-written with Leonard Mlodinow, and read by Steve West, on the Destinies Audiobook Sampler. The Destinies Soundtrack Spotlight shines on Jay Chattaway's score for "Star Trek: The Next Generation-Descent parts 1 and 2," which featured Stephen Hawking in a holodeck poker game with Data, Isaac Newton, and Albert Einstein. A girl with a grisly method of cosplaying asks for advice from Patrick Thomas' "Dear Cthulhu."

    

September 21, 2018 Actress Zienia Merton is remembered with her "Space: 1999" short film "Message From Moonbase Alpha," on the Destinies Radio Theater. Phil Merkel speaks with Zienia by phone at Earthbound 2005, in Florida. Christopher DeFilippis debuts "Sci-Fi-ku" in volume 2, number 190 of "DeFlip Side." The Destinies Audiobook Sampler presents part 1 of The Grand Design, read by Steve West, in memory of Stephen Hawking.



September 14, 2018 The Destinies Radio Theater presents a 62-year flashback with Robert Nathan's "A Pride of Carrots or Venus Well-Served," narrated by the author, and featuring an all-star voice cast, including June Foray, Daws Butler, Richard Hale, and Alan Reed, as originally aired on the September 14, 1956 episode of "The CBS Radio Workshop."



September 7, 2018 In memory of author Jerry Pournelle, the Destinies Audiobook Sampler presents part 2 of "Starswarm," read by Lloyd James. Remembering the late actor Harry Anderson with Act One Audio's "Time Zone" on the Destinies Radio Theater. Plus, a listing of the 2018 Hugo Award winners.

  

August 31, 2018 Phil Merkel joins in a press conference with actress Gates McFadden, recorded at Trekonderoga on August 25, 2018. Patrick Thomas addresses the problem of a woman whose husband is a real dog in a letter to "Dear Cthulhu." In memory of author Jerry Pournelle (8/7/33-9/8/17), Lloyd James reads part one of Pournelle's novel "Starswarm" on the Destinies Audiobook Sampler.



August 24, 2018 Part two of Marc Gunn in concert at the I-Con 29 Cabaret. In this segment, The Celtfather sings, with the help of a live Stony Brook audience, about being "Kilted For Her Pleasure," catnipped cats, insatiable widows, "Wild Mountain Thyme" and burning pubs. Plus, a song from Marc's latest album of music inspired by the cult TV series Firefly.



August 17, 2018 Part one of Marc Gunn's second set at the I-Con 29 Cabaret features songs about Hobbits, "Firefly," St. Patrick and zombies, as well as his original shanty "The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea."



August 10, 2018 Saluting the 57th anniversary of The Fantastic Four and the release of Marvel's new "Fantastic Four" # 1 with a Soundtrack Spotlight on John Ottman's score for "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer." Plus, on the Destinies Radio Theater, the Fantastic Four face "The Coming of the Sub-Mariner," in a episode of "The Fantastic Four Radio Show" from 1975.

    

August 3, 2018 Live telephone interview with actress Claudia Christian, who returns for her seventh appearance to discuss and introduce scenes from her latest Radio Repertory Company of America production "Anne Manx and the Black Knight."



July 27, 2018 Live telephone interview with Russ Colchamiro, editor of the Crazy 8 Press anthology "Love, Murder & Mayhem: Cosmic Tales of the Heart Gone Deadly Wrong," who discusses the book and reads from his contribution to it, "The Hardwicke Files," and also talks about his own writing projects.

    

July 20, 2018 Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the international release of "Willow" with on-set interviews with George Lucas, Ron Howard, Warwick Davis, and Dennis Muren. Patrick Thomas and Howard Margolin read two letters to "Dear Cthulhu." Christopher DeFilippis reviews John Cleese's recent appearance at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center in volume 2, number 189 of "DeFlip Side." Saluting the Discovery Channel's 30th annual "Shark Week" with the adventure "Treasure of the Sharks" from the album "Jaws of the Shark" on the Destinies Radio Theater.

    

July 13, 2018 Actress Sarah Douglas returns for her fourth appearance, in an interview recorded at Eternal Con #6. Remembering the late actress Margot Kidder with her performance of "Can You Read My Mind?" from the soundtrack of "Superman-The Movie." Honoring the memory of artist Steve Ditko with the Dr. Strange adventure, "The Return of the Omnipotent Baron Mordo," adapted from the story in "Strange Tales" #114, on the Destinies Radio Theater.

June 29, 2018 Preparing for the upcoming release of "Ant-Man and the Wasp" with the Destinies Audiobook Sampler of the novelization of the first "Ant-Man" movie, and a Soundtrack Spotlight on Christophe Beck's "Ant-Man" score. Plus, in honor of July 4th's release of Batman #50, the Destinies Radio Theater presents "The Marriage of Batman and Batwoman," from the 1966 LP "More Official Adventures of Batman and Robin."

    

June 22, 2018 "Graphic Detail" #217: Concluding the Len Wein memorial with part 2 of a digitally edited encore of a phone interview originally aired live on 5/26/06, tying in to the releases of "X-Men: The Last Stand" and Benbella Books' "The Unauthorized X-Men." May 18, 2018 Saluting the release of "Deadpool 2" and preparing for the release of "Solo: A Star Wars Story," with a Destinies Radio Theater Double Feature. The Merc With A Mouth battles Goom! The Thing From Planet X in chapter 2 of the Graphic Audio adaptation of Stefan Petrucha's novel "Deadpool: Paws." In a galaxy far, far away, Princess Leia, C-3PO, Chewbacca, and a band of rebels search for a new base after the loss of Hoth. What will they find on the "Planet of the Hoojibs?" Find out in this adaptation of a Marvel Comics "Star Wars" story by David Michelinie.

  

May 11, 2018 Christopher DeFilippis leaps back into "Quantum Leap" podcasting in volume 2, number 188 of "DeFlip Side." Patrick Thomas' "Dear Cthulhu" joins the Destinies line-up with an examination of the merits of raising free-range children. The late actor Martin Landau is remembered with an exclusive interview by Phil Merkel, recorded at Saturday Nightmares in June, 2011, as well as an adaptation of the first season "Space: 1999" episode, "Dragon's Domain" on the Destinies Radio Theater. Plus, music by the late Robert Miles.

  

May 4, 2018 The Destinies Film Review Team (Howard Margolin and Audrey Dettmering) assembles live to discuss "Avengers: Infinity War." Also includes the proxy review of Steve Lowenthal.



April 27, 2018 The Voice of Science Fiction celebrates its 35th anniversary with a one-hour special. Features include encore readings by authors Claudia Christian, Peter David, Marc Vun Kannon, and Patrick Thomas. Christopher DeFilippis discusses how Destinies has survived the Friday Night Death Slot in Volume 2, Number 187 of "DeFlip Side;" Plus, a salute to the 50th anniversary of the original version of Destinies' theme song, "Classical Gas," with performances by Mason Williams and Synergy. And, a preview of "Anne Manx and the Black Knight," starring Claudia Christian, by the Radio Repertory Company of America.
