DESTINIES - THE VOICE OF SCIENCE FICTION airs on Fridays at 11:30 PM on WUSB, 90.1 FM, the radio station of the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Hundreds of writers, artists, editors, actors, producers, directors, and musicians have appeared on the program since its debut in April, 1983. January 7, 2000 The Destinies Film Review Team (Howard Margolin and Jim Rowland) assembles live to discuss their favorite and least favorite science fiction, fantasy, adventure and horror movies of 1999, as well as their choice for the best genre film of the 1990s. Also includes the list of absentee reviewer Steve Lowenthal. Plus, the Destinies crew faces the threat of Joe2K as the Destinies-Joe Evangelista Wars continue.



January 14, 2000 In memory of actor John Archer (5/8/15-12/3/99), the Destinies Radio Theater presents The Shadow in "The Cat That Killed." Three night watchmen have been murdered at Barton's warehouse by a monstrous cat and The Shadow goes undercover, as the next watchman.



January 21, 2000 Live telephone interview with Grammy-nominated record producer Didier C. Deutsch, editor of "Musichound Soundtracks: The Essential Album Guide to Film, Television, and Stage Music." Learn what went in to the creation of this massive book, featuring reviews of over 3,000 film soundtracks and cast recordings available on CD. Find out what Didier's favorite scores are. Hear the stories behind Didier's production of the re-issues of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture 20th Anniversary Edition/Inside Star Trek" and "It's A Bird, It's A Plane, It's Superman," and listen to a bonus track from that cast recording.

  

January 28, 2000 15th annual memorial for the crew of space shuttle Challenger with music from Alan Parsons' album "The Time Machine." Honoring the memories of "Star Trek" author Stephen E. Poe (Whitfield) and director John Newland with "Star Trek: Passage to Moauv" on the Destinies Radio Theater.



February 4, 2000 Live in-studio discussion of the current activities of the Stony Brook Science Fiction Forum with Treasurer Robert Anders and Librarian Dawn Boniface.



February 11, 2000 The Destinies Soundtrack Spotlight shines on the music of "Batman Beyond." Denise Crosby dishes first season "Star Trek" trivia in part 4 of "Nitpicker's Fun & Games for Classic Trekkers." Picking up where "Batman & Robin" left off, Barbara Wilson investigates Roman Sionis in part one of "Batgirl: To Dare the Darkness" on the Destinies Radio Theater.

  

February 18, 2000 The Destinies Soundtrack Spotlight shines on Mervyn Warren's score for "Steel." On the Destinies Radio Theater, Batgirl battles Black Mask in part two of "To Dare the Darkness."

  

February 25, 2000 GNP Crescendo Records' Neil Norman makes his second appearance, this time live in the WUSB studio with members of his Cosmic Orchestra Kevin Karamitros and Bill Burchell. Neil talks about his company's output, performing music with actors from the various "Star Trek" series, his plans for the future, and introduces the world premiere of Tim Russ' song "I Can't Imagine."


March 3, 2000 In memory of actor Clayton Moore (9/14/14-12/28/99), the Destinies Radio Theater presents "Tonto Saves the Lone Ranger's Life." Tom Lehrer performs "The Elements." "Graphic Detail" # 127: Howard Margolin interviews "Doom Patrol" writer Rachel Pollack at I-Con 14 (Part 1).



March 10, 2000 Selections from the Original Cast Recording of "The Magic Show" in memory of magician Doug Henning (5/3/47-2/7/00). "Graphic Detail" # 128: Part 2 of Howard Margolin's interview with "Doom Patrol" writer Rachel Pollack at I-Con 14.

  

March 17, 2000 Destinies Radio Theater: The Green Hornet tries to bring down a corrupt investigator, as well as stop a racket that is operating through a "Classified Ad" in the Daily Sentinel, in an episode originally aired on March 30, 1946.



April 28, 2000 Destinies celebrates its 17th anniversary with music from Tim Russ, Tom Smith, Evan Chen, The Don't Quit Your Day Job Players, Alan Parsons, "Highlander: A Celtic Opera," as well as Mason Williams and Mannheim Steamroller's collaboration on "Classical Gas." Plus, encore readings by authors Mark Hertzberg and T.A. Barron; an interview with actor Peter Woodward; and the Destinies Radio Theater adaptation of "Space: 1999-Death's Other Dominion."



May 5, 2000 The Destinies Soundtrack Spotlight shines on Howard Shore's score for "Dogma." Denise Crosby discusses whether or not Starfleet is a military organization, in part 5 of Phil Farrand's "Nitpicker's Fun & Games For Classic Trekkers." Kerry Gautier introduces Master of Ceremonies Dr. Demento, who, in turn, introduces filksinger Dave Weingart, at the start of the I-Con 19 Cabaret.

  

​May 12, 2000 An hour-long phone interview with actress and singer Grace Lee Whitney, who discusses events from her life, as chronicled in her autobiography "The Longest Trek: My Tour of the Galaxy," and introduces songs from her cassette, "Yeoman Rand Sings."



May 19, 2000 Music from Christopher Franke's score for the 1996 film "Solo." Doc Alan performs stand-up comedy and music at the I-Con 19 Cabaret, introduced by Dr. Demento.



May 26, 2000 A Star Trek Special featuring a Destinies Soundtrack Spotlight on Gerald Fried's score for "Amok Time" and part 6 of Phil Farrand's "Nitpicker's Fun and Games for Classic Trekkers," read by Denise Crosby. Plus, at I-Con 19, Dr. Demento introduces Tom Rockwell of Sudden Death who makes his Cabaret debut with his songs "Star Trek Life" and "South Park Junkie," and Mark Allen Shepherd of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" who sings "Morn to be Wild."

  

June 2, 2000 Denise Crosby provides second season "Star Trek" trivia in part 7 of Phil Farrand's "Nitpicker's Fun & Games for Classic Trekkers." Dr. Demento introduces Voltaire at the I-Con 19 Cabaret, where the Goth Renaissance Man performs "Ex-Lover's Lover," "Oweee," "Dead Girls Like Me," and "When You're Evil," and reads two Top 13 lists from his comic "Oh My Goth!"

  

June 9, 2000 Kevin J. Anderson reads chapter one of "Titan A.E.: Cale's Story" at I-Con 19. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the movie "Dick Tracy" with James Keane reading part one of Max Allan Collins' novelization of the screenplay.

    

June 16, 2000 Rebecca Moesta reads chapter 1 of her novel "Titan A.E.: Akima's Story," recorded at I-Con 19. James Keane reads part 2 of Max Allan Collins' novelization of "Dick Tracy" on the Destinies Audiobook Sampler.

    

June 23, 2000 Destinies' 2nd annual Science Fiction Blues Special featuring music by The Be Five (Bill Mumy, Claudia Christian, Peter Jurasik, Andreas Katsulas, Mira Furlan), The Don't Quit Your Day Job Players, Tim Russ, and Jim Byrnes.

  

June 30, 2000 Dr. Demento introduces singer and actress Julie Caitlin Brown at the I-Con 19 Cabaret. James Doohan reads part one of Garfield and Judith Reeves-Stevens "Star Trek: Prime Directive" on the Destinies Audiobook Sampler.

    

July 7, 2000 James Doohan reads part 2 of Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens' "Star Trek: Prime Directive" on the Destinies Audiobook Sampler. At the I-Con 19 Cabaret, Dr. Demento introduces Carpathian the Storyteller and filksinger Dr. SETI.

    

July 14, 2000 Patrick Stewart discusses the "X-Men" movie at Creation Entertainment's Hofstra University convention. Jason Carter performs his original poetry, introduced by Dr. Demento, at the I-Con 19 Cabaret. Plus, music by Dennis McCarthy from the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" series finale, "All Good Things."



July 21, 2000 The Destinies Film Review Team (Howard Margolin, Jim Rowland, Dr. Pornstar, and the Tin Buddha) assembles live to discuss "X-Men."



July 28, 2000 Actor and writer Richard Hatch returns for his second live appearance to discuss Sci-Fi Channel's "Sciography: Battlestar Galactica," his trailer for "Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming," and his post-series "Battlestar Galactica" novels "Warhawk" and "Armageddon."



August 4, 2000 Doug Savant reads part 1 of "Godzilla" on the Destinies Audiobook Sampler. Dr. Demento introduces Dankwert the Bard at the I-Con 19 Cabaret. Plus, sound effects from "Godzilla 2000." And, the Destinies-Joe Evangelista Wars continue.

    

August 11, 2000 The Destinies Soundtrack Spotlight shines on Takayuki Hattori's score for "Godzilla 2000: Millennium." Doug Savant reads part 2 of "Godzilla" on the Destinies Audiobook Sampler. Dr. Demento introduces the Vocal Inquisition as the last act at the I-Con 19 Cabaret.

August 25, 2000 "Graphic Detail" # 129: Live phone interview with Julius Schwartz, who makes his fourth Destinies appearance to discuss his memoir "Man of Two Worlds: My Life in Science Fiction and Comics."



September 1, 2000 The Destinies Radio Theater presents "The Roads Must Roll," adapted from the story by Robert Heinlein, as originally aired on the 9/1/50 episode of "Dimension X."



September 15, 2000 Jeff Daniels reads part one of H.F. Saint's "Memoirs of an Invisible Man" on the Destinies Audiobook Sampler. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of "Space: 1999," the Destinies Radio Theater presents "Mission of the Darians."

September 22, 2000 Jeff Daniels reads part two of "Memoirs of an Invisible Man" on the Destinies Audiobook Sampler. Peter David makes his 11th appearance on the show in the 131st edition of "Graphic Detail." Plus, music from the compilation CD "Space and Beyond 3."

September 29, 2000 Denise Crosby provides some second season trivia and discusses attitudes towards women in part 8 of "Nitpicker's Fun & Games for Classic Trekkers." Nana Visitor performs "Fever" from the "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "His Way." On the Destinies Radio Theater, Wonder Woman meets "The Amazons from Space."



October 27, 2000 Destinies' 18th annual Halloween Special, featuring "A Story of Dracula, the Wolfman, and Frankenstein," written by Neal Adams, on the Destinies Radio Theater. Plus, an interview with Jamie Lee Curtis as a bonus feature on the soundtrack of "The Fog."



November 3, 2000 The Destinies Radio Theater presents "The Professor Was A Thief," adapted from the story by L. Ron Hubbard, originally aired on the 11/5/50 episode of "Dimension X."



November 10, 2000 Author John Kenneth Muir makes his first Destinies appearance, in a live telephone interview, to discuss his books "Exploring Space: 1999" and "An Analytical History of Television's Battlestar Galactica."



November 17, 2000 Exclusive telephone interview with Tom Lehrer, in which he discusses and introduces selections from his Rhino Records Box Set, "The Remains of Tom Lehrer," including "Introduction," "Silent e," "That's Mathematics," and "So Long, Mom."

 

December 1, 2000 Author T. A. Barron returns for his fourth live interview to discuss and read from his novel "The Wings Of Merlin," Book 5 of "The Lost Years of Merlin" Saga.

  

December 8, 2000 Live telephone interview with author Les Daniels, who returns for his third appearance to discuss his books "Wonder Woman: The Complete History" and "Batman: The Complete History."



December 15, 2000 Excerpts from reporter Jamie Talan's interview with Christopher Reeve. Music from Eric Serra's score for "Goldeneye," from the album "Bond: Back in Action 2." In a Shazam! adventure on the Destinies Radio Theater, the original Captain Marvel battles "The Mighty Dr. Illusion."

    

December 22, 2000 Tom Lehrer performs "Hanukkah in Santa Monica." Graphic Detail #132: Part one of an interview with Marvel Comics writer Dan Slott, recorded at I-Con 12. Voltaire sings "Shalom." In memory of former DC publisher Jack Liebowitz, Superman searches for the "Star of Bangalore" on the Destinies Radio Theater.

  

December 29, 2000 "Graphic Detail" # 133: The Graphic Detail (Howard Margolin, Jim Rowland, Bob Rozakis), list their choices for the best, worst, and most disappointing developments in the comic book industry for 2000. Part two of the interview with Marvel writer Dan Slott, recorded at I-Con XII.
