DESTINIES - THE VOICE OF SCIENCE FICTION airs on Fridays at 11:30 PM on WUSB, 90.1 FM, the radio station of the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Hundreds of writers, artists, editors, actors, producers, directors, and musicians have appeared on the program since its debut in April, 1983. January 12, 1996 The Destinies Audiobook Sampler makes its debut with Roddy McDowell reading part one of Prof. Janus Kimball's novelization of "Scanners 2: The New Order." The Destinies Soundtrack Spotlight shines on Michael Kamen's score for "Brazil." As the riot at San Miguel Penitentiary continues, the Man of Steel attempts to stop The Wolf and Keno from reaching "The Steam Plant" with their hostage, Lois Lane, in episode 17 of "Superman," on the Destinies Radio Theater.

  
January 19, 1996 The Destinies Soundtrack Spotlight shines on Elliot Goldenthal's score for "Interview with the Vampire." Roddy McDowell continues his reading of Prof. Janus Kimball's novelization of "Scanners II: The New Order" on the Destinies Audiobook Sampler. The Man of Steel's enemies battle to the death when "The Wolf Vs. The Yellow Mask" in episode 18 of "Superman" on the Destinies Radio Theater.

  
January 26, 1996 The Voice of Science Fiction's 11th annual Space Shuttle Memorial features the "X-Minus One" episode "The Cave of Night," adapted from the story by James E. Gunn, as originally aired on February 1, 1956. An astronaut is trapped in a space ship with no fuel. Can the earth command team rescue him before his oxygen runs out? Plus, Howard's post-hypnotic suggestion causes Joe to play eye and vision-related songs as "The Destinies-Joe Evangelista Wars" continue.



March 8, 1996 "Graphic Detail" # 90: Live telephone interview with Peter David who returns to discuss his "Incredible Hulk" novel "What Savage Beast," the TV series "Space Cases," and his comic book series "Supergirl," "Aquaman," and "Marvel Vs. DC." Plus, the Destinies-Joe Evangelista Wars continue.

March 15, 1996 Howard Margolin celebrates his 12th anniversary with the Voice of Science Fiction by reading Avram Davidson's "The Golem." "Spoon Trick and The Trestle" from Jerry Goldsmith's score for "Powder." On the Destinies Radio Theater, is it "Man or Monster" that guards the entrance to Stone House? Find out in episode 23 of "Superman."

  

March 22, 1996 Live, in-studio interview with author John Peel, who makes his eighth appearance to discuss his many projects, including his "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "Star Trek: The Next Generation," and "Quantum Leap" novels, "The Addams Family and The Munsters Programme Guide," his series "Diadem: Worlds of Magic," the "Doctor Who" Fox TV movie, and more.

  

March 29, 1996 The Destinies Radio Theater Presents "Tsylana" as originally aired on the September 19, 1957 episode of "X-Minus One." Plus, Howard Margolin sings his Radiothon version of "When Tomorrow Comes."



April 12, 1996 Hosts Howard Margolin and Glenn Hauman welcome I-Con 15 guests Keith R.A. DeCandido (making his 2nd appearance), Susan Alston of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, and author and game designer Mike Stackpole to the WUSB studio for a live mini-representation of the convention.

 

April 26, 1996 Destinies' Bar Mitzvah Special featuring stories by Dr. Isaac Asimov and Avram Davidson, and an interview with Dr. Laurence Shoen of the Klingon Language Institute. On the Destinies Radio Theater, Clark Kent discovers "Dr. Beacham's Secret" in episode 24 of "Superman." Plus, Synergy's "Classical Gas," and "Jews In Space."



May 3, 1996 Part one of Tom Smith's performance at the I-Con XV Cabaret. Clark Kent learns "Dr. Beecham's Story" in episode 25 of "Superman." Howard Margolin delivers news about DC and Marvel Comics in "Graphic Detail" # 91. Plus, Joe is subjected to the enhanced Europeanizer as "The Destinies-Joe Evangelista Wars" continue.

  

May 10, 1996 Part 2 of filksinger Tom Smith at the I-Con 15 cabaret. On the Destinies Radio Theater: Can Clark Kent rescue Dr. & Elsie Beecham, as well as Eddie the cab driver from "The Burning House?" Find out in episode 26 of "Superman." Plus, music from "The Doctor Who 25th Anniversary Album."

  

May 17, 1996 Peter David and Bill Mumy perform at the I-Con XV Cabaret. Howard Margolin interviews actor Ethan Phillips at I-Con XV. On the Destinies Radio Theater, learn "The Secret of the Inca's Emerald" in episode 27 of "Superman." Plus, meet "The Incredible Shrinking Joe" as "The Destinies-Joe Evangelista Wars" continue.



May 24, 1996 Bill Mumy concludes his performance at the I-Con XV Cabaret. The Destinies Radio Theater presents the introduction of Jimmy Olsen in episode 28 of "Superman."

May 31, 1996 "Graphic Detail" # 92: DC Comics' Jerry Siegel Memorial Service begins with tributes by Paul Levitz, Jenette Kahn, and Mike Carlin. Gyp Danelli enacts his "Scheme for Revenge" against Jimmy Olsen's mother in episode 29 of "Superman."

June 7, 1996 "Graphic Detail" # 93: Part 2 of DC Comics' Jerry Siegel Memorial Service featuring tributes by Julius Schwartz and Jerry Robinson, and a letter from Jean Shuster-Peevey. Plus, episode 30 of "Superman" on the Destinies Radio Theater.

  

June 14, 1996 "Graphic Detail" # 94: Paul Levitz introduces Kal-El and Jon Bogdanove, Jo Duffy, and John Ostrander, who offer their commentaries and anecdotes at DC's Jerry Siegel Memorial Service. On the Destinies Radio Theater, Clark Kent, Perry White, and Jimmy Olsen search for Lois Lane, who is lost in the middle of a "Forest Fire" in episode 31 of "Superman."

  

July 19, 1996 Jon Pertwee Memorial Special Part 1: Ralph Schiano interviews Jon Pertwee at Whovent '85. Learn how Pertwee got the part of the 3rd Doctor Who, and his thoughts about playing the role. Part 1 of Pertwee's performance at the I-Con V Cabaret, recorded on April 5, 1986.



July 26, 1996 Jon Pertwee Memorial Special Part 2, featuring Pertwee's 1972 single "Who Is The Doctor?," and the conclusion of his performance at the I-Con V Cabaret, including "Ode to the Little Brown Shack Out Back."

August 2, 1996 "Graphic Detail" # 98: Curt Swan Memorial featuring memories of him from artist Terry Austin, editor Mike Carlin, and writers Peter David and Elliot S. Maggin, as well as an encore presentation of an interview with Curt Swan recorded at I-Con IX.



August 9, 1996 Rene Auberjonois reads part one of Peter David's novelization of "Batman Forever" on the Destinies Audiobook Sampler. From the soundtrack of "Batman Forever," the Offspring perform "Smash It Up." On the Destinies Radio Theater, "The Airplane Mystery" begins as Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen face "Death In The Air" in episode 34 of "Superman."

  

August 16, 1996 The Destinies Soundtrack Spotlight shines on Elliot Goldenthal's score for "Batman Forever." Rene Auberjonois reads part two of Peter David's novelization of "Batman Forever" on the Destinies Audiobook Sampler. On the Destinies Radio Theater, Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen find themselves aboard "The Circus Train" in episode 35 of "Superman."

August 23, 1996 "Graphic Detail" # 99: In memory of Marvel Comics writer, editor, and artist Mark Gruenwald, Howard Margolin presents a re-edited encore of his interview with Mark, originally recorded at Long Island Comics in 1985. Plus, Mike Post's theme for "Captain America II: Death Too Soon," and Tom Smith performs his Jim Henson tribute song "A Boy and His Frog."



August 30, 1996 The Destinies Radio Theater presents The Shadow in "Circle of Death," starring Orson Welles, and originally broadcast on November 28, 1937.



September 6, 1996 George Takei makes his 3rd Destinies appearance to celebrate the 30th anniversary of "Star Trek" in a full-length interview recorded at I-Con XIII. Topics include George's autobiography, "To The Stars," and the original Captain Sulu audio adventure, "Transformations."

  

September 27, 1996 Keith R.A. DeCandido makes his third live appearance (and first solo interview) to discuss the 1996 World Science Fiction Convention, and the projects he worked on as an editor at Byron Preiss Multimedia Company, including the Marvel novels and the anthology "Otherwere."

  

October 11, 1996 "Graphic Detail" # 101: Live, in-studio interview with Comicolor's Clifford Van Meter, who discusses his career in the industry, how Comicolor came about, and his plans for the series "Silver."

  

October 18, 1996 "Graphic Detail" # 102: Live, in-studio interview with Crusade Comics' "Demon Gun" writer Gary Cohn and artist Barry Orkin.

  

October 25, 1996 Pre-Halloween Special featuring "Cat Wife," as originally aired on the June 17, 1936 episode of "Lights Out." Boris Karloff stars as an angry husband and Betty Winkler as his wife, Linda, who arrives home with her friends making noise like a pack of yowling, screaming alley cats. An argument ensues, and he announces he's through with her. Then she cruelly informs him that she only married him for his money. He accuses her of being a big white heartless cat, with unexpected consequences, as his accusations take on a disturbing reality.



November 22, 1996 A Star Trek Special, featuring a Soundtrack Spotlight on Sol Kaplan's score for "The Doomsday Machine." Plus, an interview with then-Pocket Books Star Trek editor John Ordover.



December 13, 1996 James Doohan reads part 2 of Diane Carey's "Star Trek: Final Frontier" on the Destinies Audiobook Sampler. In memory of actor Mark Lenard, an encore presentation of an interview with him originally aired on July 29, 1988.

    

December 20,1996 "Graphic Detail" # 104: The Graphic Detail (Howard Margolin and Jim Rowland) review the best, worst, and most disappointing developments in the comic book industry for 1996. Then, Howard Margolin and Glenn Greenberg interview artist Tom Palmer at I-Con XIII.​
