Hundreds of writers, artists, editors, actors, producers, directors, and musicians have appeared on the program since its debut in April, 1983. January 03, 1986 The Destinies Film Review Team (Howard Margolin, John Madonia, Joe Leo, and Glenn Hauman) discuss their favorite and least favorite science fiction, fantasy, adventure, and horror films of 1985, and take calls from the audience in the first live Destinies Year-In-Film show.



January 10, 1986 John Madonia reviews "Radio Free Albemuth" by Philip K. Dick and lists his choices for the best books of 1985, then joins Gary Halada to discuss "Bioblast" by Raymond Z. Gallun. "Graphic Detail" # 6: Howard Margolin and Glenn Hauman review the best, worst, and most disappointing developments in the comic book industry for 1985. Plus, another installment of the Destinies-Joe Evangelista Wars.



January 24, 1986 John Madonia reads Stephen King's short story "Morning Deliveries." Ralph Schiano provides an I-Con V update. Howard Margolin reads Harlan Ellison's short story "Opium." Plus, music from "Octopussy" and "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." And, listeners offer suggestions about how to destroy Joe as "The Destinies-Joe Evangelista Wars" continue.

  

January 31, 1986 John Madonia discusses the loss of the space shuttle "Challenger" and its crew. Elton John performs "Rocket Man." Gary Halada remembers the late L. Ron Hubbard and presents two selections from Hubbard's soundtrack for his novel "Battlefield Earth." Kevin Sterner reads "Geever's Flight" by Charles E. Fritch. Howard Margolin introduces music from the Alan Parsons Project's album "Stereotomy." Also hosted by Ralph Schiano.

  

February 7, 1986 John Madonia previews upcoming movies and reviews Judith Tarr's novel "The Hounds of God" in "Things to Come." Howard Margolin, Gary Halada, and Glenn Hauman perform "Pulpworld" by R.K. Lyon. Howard and Glenn discuss upcoming developments in the comic book industry in the 7th edition of "Graphic Detail." Plus, music from the Alan Parsons Project album "Stereotomy." Includes a surprising Joe Evangelista introduction and response.



March 21, 1986 John Madonia reviews Jack Williamson's autobiography, "Wonder's Child," then joins with Howard Margolin and Ralph Schiano to discuss the films that will be shown at I-Con V. Plus, Joe goes to Hell in an epic edition of "The Destinies-Joe Evangelista Wars," with special WUSB guests Bob Longman and Arnie Pritchett.

  

March 28, 1986 Gary Halada, Howard Margolin, and Ralph Schiano preview I-Con V, held on the Stony Brook University campus from April 4-6, 1986.



April 4, 1986 Live from I-Con V for Destinies' first I-Con Mystery Guest Special with writers Esther Friesner and Susan Shwartz, and film publicist Tom Sciacca joining hosts Gary Halada and Howard Margolin in the WUSB studio. Featuring a special appearance by Joe Evangelista and the Daleks.



April 18, 1986 Get in your TARDIS and travel back to ICON 5 1986 for an interview with the 3rd Doctor Who, Jon Pertwee (1919 - 1996). Featuring Ralph Schiano



April 25, 1986 Destinies' 3rd anniversary special featuring John Madonia satirizing the production values of Doubleday books, providing a warning to the people of 2085, and memorializing the crew of the space shuttle Challenger; "Weird Al" Yankovic singing "Slime Creatures From Outer Space;" John, Howard Margolin and Ralph Schiano performing R. K. Lyon's "Pulpworld;" John, Howard, Ralph, and Gary Halada discussing The Voice of Science Fictions' 3rd year; Mason Williams' "Classical Gas;" Howard interviewing author John Peel at I-Con V; Jon Pertwee's "Who Is The Doctor?;" Gary, Howard, Ralph, and WUSB's Liz Opoka adapting Jules Feiffer's "Superman" for the Destinies Radio Theater; the Alan Parsons Project's "Light of the World," and Howard reading Harlan Ellison's "Opium."

May 2, 1986 Music from the soundtracks of "Legend" by Bryan Ferry and Tangerine Dream, and "Highlander," by Queen. John Madonia reviews "The Probability Pad" by T. A. Waters in "Past Tense." Howard Margolin interviews Mike Sargent, producer and star of "James Scott: When the Worlds Need Heroes" at I-Con V. Also hosted by Glenn Hauman. Plus, the Destinies crew discovers what lies within the Well of the Souls as "The Destinies-Joe Evangelista Wars" continue.



Curtain Up! June 15, 1986 Howard Margolin begins his summer run as host of WUSB's weekly program of cast albums and film soundtracks by presenting the Original Broadway Cast Recording of the 1966 musical "It's A Bird, It's A Plane, It's Superman," along with the plot synopsis introducing each song.



June 27, 1986 John Madonia previews the movie "Labyrinth" and reviews Roger Zelazny's "Sign of the Unicorn" and "The Hand of Oberon," and "Wankh" by Jack Vance in "Things to Come." Howard Margolin interviews Charles Pelligrino at I-Con V. Gary Halada reads "Transaction" by Richard S. Halada. The Destinies Film Review Team (Howard and John) discusses "The Manhattan Project." Howard interviews several of Destinies' celebrity guests about the Joe-Evangelista-Bob Longman Team as "The Destinies-Joe Evangelista Wars" continue.

  

July 18, 1986 "Graphic Detail" #12: An interview with Marvel Comics artist, writer, and editor Al Milgrom, recorded at Long Island Comics and the Creation Summer Expo. Plus, music from the soundtracks of "Labyrinth" and "Ladyhawke," and the LP "Spider-Man: Rock Reflections of a Super-Hero."

    

July 25, 1986 Things to Come: John Madonia previews "Maximum Overdrive," "Haunted Honeymoon," and "Vamp," and reviews Roger Zelazny's "Trumps of Doom;" Ralph Schiano reports on the status of "Doctor Who" in England. "Graphic Detail" # 13: Howard Margolin interviews inker Terry Austin at Creation Convention. Ralph, Howard, John, and Hillary Hess review "Aliens." Plus, the Destinies crew (including Glenn Hauman) has a surprise for Joe as "The Destines-Joe Evangelista Wars" continue.

  

August 1, 1986 Music by Lion and Vince DiCola from "The Transformers-The Movie." James Doohan stars in an original "Star Trek" comedy sketch at the 1986 Cabaret. Frank Argus performs "Starship" in celebration of "Star Trek's" 20th anniversary. Plus, episode 2 of "The Fantastic Adventures of Phil A. Delphia."



August 8, 1986 John Madonia previews new film releases and reviews "Alien Cargo" by Theodore Sturgeon, and Hillary Hess provides an update on the 1986 Worldcon in "Things to Come." Stephen Moore performs "Marvin, I Love You." Preparing for the 20th anniversary of "Star Trek," Jody Morse reads his parody "Star Trash: The Big Time," and Jurassics sing "The Ballad of James T. Kirk." Plus, Howard Margolin uses the Amplitude Modulator on Joe, as "The Destinies-Joe Evangelista Wars" continue.



August 15, 1986 John Madonia discusses "The Fly" and Confederation, the 1986 Worldcon, and reviews David Brin's "The Practice Effect" and "Startide Rising," in "Things To Come." Howard Margolin interviews author David Gerrold at Creation Convention, then teams with Gary Halada to read R.A. Montana's story "The Diana Syndrome." Plus, music from the soundtrack of "Howard The Duck." ​



August 22, 1986John Madonia discusses news about upcoming books from Isaac Asimov and David Brin and reviews "Firechild" by Jack Williamson in "Things To Come." Howard Margolin provides information about the 1986 Worldcon, concludes his interview with author David Gerrold, then teams with Glenn Hauman to read "The Humanic Complex" by Ray Russell. Plus, the Destinies-Joe Evangelistar Wars Trilogy begins.



August 31, 1986 Howard Margolin hosts his final episode of "Curtain Up," then WUSB's weekly program of Broadway cast albums and film soundtracks, with a spotlight on the music of composer Jerry Goldsmith.

September 5, 1986 Glenn Hauman backsells Billy Joel's "Miami 2017," and reviews the latest comic books in "Graphic Detail," introduced by Hillary Hess." Ray Bradbury introduces and reads "Rocket Summer" from "The Martian Chronicles." Gary Halada introduces Jon Anderson's "Cage of Freedom," from the soundtrack of "Metropolis," and reads "The True History of the Hare and The Tortoise" by Lord Dunsany. John Cornetto makes his Destinies Debut to introduce "Hombre Secreto" by The Plugz from the soundtrack of "Repo Man." Also hosted by John Madonia. Plus, Joe Evangelista comments about the abrupt ending of the show.



October 9-10, 1986 Celebrating the third anniversary of the "Destinies-Joe Evangelista Wars" with Gary Halada and Howard Margolin presenting a retrospective containing nearly all the Joe introductions between 1983 and 1986. Also includes the entire Joe Evangelista Show which followed this episode.



November 28, 1986 John Madonia reads one author's reflections on the Thanksgiving season. Howard Margolin and Glenn Hauman review "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home." Hillary Hess reads "But Not The Herald" by Roger Zelazny." Plus, music from John Barry's score for "Somewhere In Time." And, Ming the Merciless attacks WUSB DJ Bob Longman.



December 26, 1986 "Graphic Detail" # 18, featuring a review of the best, worst, and most disappointing developments in the comic book industry for 1986, by Howard Margolin, Glenn Hauman, and Glen Semenick, as well as an interview with DC artist and executive Dick Giordano. Destinies' first year-end "Graphic Detail" special.
